2026 Boar Resolutions

Here at The Boar, we’re all about renewal. A continuous quest for relevance, through incisive reporting and savvy cultural commentary. Or, less pretentiously, just the premise of a blank sheet of newspaper, really: infinite possibilities! In that spirit, see our team’s own attempts – ill-fated or otherwise – at self-improvement for 2026.

Gabriela Jozefowicz, Games Editor – My resolution for this year is to make sure I have written an article for every section of The Boar! On top of that, I want to make sure I lock in, finish my degree and work towards the post-grad future that I want. (Oh, and, you know, the typical ‘eat less chocolate’ thing…).

Abbie Fox, Head of Social Media – To drink more water (will never understand how people enjoy this), to draw more, and (most importantly of course) to complete the Whole Hog!

Nikolai Morton, News Editor – My resolution last year, to get off my phone, didn’t exactly go to plan. I’ll keep that futile one in place for 2026, but other goals of mine include rekindling my childhood love of reading (exploring worlds I haven’t ventured into before…) and delving deeper into new music genres. Most important in the year ahead, however, is to graduate with a good degree, and to stop putting this paper before my studies!

Gabrielle Welch, Features Editor – For resolutions, mine is simply to keep track of the media I consume and enjoy.

Ben Tanguy, Chief Sub-Editor – Having comprehensively failed to cut down on my coffee consumption this year I’d like to make a similarly futile pledge for 2026: to tackle my reels addiction. An unholy mix of AI slop, combined with seeing Starmer and Farage attempt the 6-7 trend, has caused lasting damage. I’d like to turn to more productive uses of time instead – those POP! tickets won’t buy themselves.

Zahra Jazmina, Lifestyle Editor – Learn to read a book before bed without falling asleep on the first page x

Hannah Colechin, Travel Editor – To finally finish the first draft of a book I’ve been writing (instead of my dissertation).

Sam Capper, Deputy Film Editor – To watch at least 150 films before the end of the year. I watched just over 130 in 2025, so I need to beat my record!!!

Hannah Guthrie, Deputy News Editor – This year, like every other year, I resolve to read more. In 2025, I started out with what can only be described as a completely deranged, lacking any kind of self-awareness, goal of reading 70 (yes, seventy) books. At the end of the year, despite the ungodly amount of reading on my course (EngLit), I could only limp my way to about twenty books. So be it required reading or dusting-off something from one of my bookshelves, 2026 *will* be the year I finally reach my reading goal, perhaps starting with setting an actually achievable one…

Tilly Dickinson, Deputy Sub-Editor – To crack jokes in French. Though I’m confident in casual conversations, I dream of being quick enough to slip in a wisecrack. That’s when I’ll know I’ve achieved real fluency.

Georgia Carwardine, SciTech Editor – Be more adventurous, challenge others’ preconceptions of me, and take the opportunity to do different things as well as doing things differently! But most importantly, I want to make the most of my remaining time at Warwick with my amazing friends!

Anya Mittal, TV Editor – My resolution is to write more for TV – uni gets so busy but I definitely want to enjoy every second of being TV editor!

Che Wheeler, Deputy Features Editor – Get formal work experience in journalism! Of course, working/writing for The Boar and other publications at Warwick has been fantastic already, but I really want to get into the nitty-gritty of how the whole thing works beyond university. That besides, I think I’ve finally found my “university jig”, if you will, in student journalism, and hope to climb to new highs in the field next year.

Martin Day, Editor-in-Chief – It cannot possibly be this hard to write a Finance article. So I will do that, and complete the Whole Hog to boot. Failing that, I want to learn how to gracefully vault a fence.

Bethany Sirianni, Podcasts Editor – My resolution is to take better care of myself by prioritising the things that mean the most to me, making time for my hobbies and passions and learning to say no! I would love to get a grade I am extremely happy with in my degree so it’s a New Year’s Resolution to find that balance between working hard and also looking after myself, so I can walk across the stage at graduation this year and have no regrets! I especially want to make the most of these final months of university and soak up every single day surrounded by my best friends, write more articles, and chase my career dreams. 🙂

William Moores, Opinion Editor – I’m reliably informed that 2026 might just be my year, so, with this in mind, I thought I’d aim big: I would like to read a book, climb the Taj Mahal, catch up on Stranger Things, write a fourth article about Warwick bus culture, play with the Viennese Philharmonic, visit Vienna, make friends with a world-class violinist, learn German, master a musical instrument, make good on the lessons of the three spirits who visited me this Christmas, and go to at least one panto! Oh, also write my dissertation and try to secure a j*b.

Megan Green, Sport Editor – I want to live in the moment more and make more memories; money comes back but memories don’t! I also want to be more diligent in my uni work, and find a better balance between uni work, my job, and social events/relaxing.

Emma Willock, Arts Editor – I am an English Literature student and I don’t think I read enough. I miss the days of literary freedom and have spent much too long annotating and analysing in 2025! This year I resolve to read more outside of my degree, hopefully in 2026 I’ll catch up with everything I’ve wanted to read in the last three years. Say goodbye to Shakespeare, bring on Sally Rooney!

Naomi Pandey, Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Communications) – Write more daring articles on topics I’m passionate about and focus on enjoying myself my last two terms (rather than worry about the future). Despite my resolution to be more spontaneous last year, I still defaulted to comforting predictability by the end of the year – now I would like to explore marrying comfort and spontaneity next year and see how that goes! And also as I enter my 20s, re-discovering my teenage interests and realising I was really onto something back then (it’s already started).

Helen Trappelides, Film Editor – To actually fulfil last year’s resolution of learning how to ride a bike… and also stop pulling all-nighters to finish assignments.

Emma Lord, Deputy News Editor – In 2026, I want to start reading for pleasure again! Too many of my evenings are taken up by doomscrolling and my book bucket list is getting incredibly long; now feels like the perfect time to try and get out of my long term reading slump.

Sanjana Iyer, Head of Multimedia – My New Year’s resolution is to revive my Letterboxd account and actually review films. Whether they’re (hopefully comic) one-liners or my in-depth opinions I want to log all the films I watch in 2026. On that note, I will also finally write for the Film section and complete the Whole Hog!

Ella Davey, Deputy Lifestyle Editor – I would like to write for more sections of The Boar, including Travel, Features, and Opinion! I’m also currently on a year abroad in Sweden, so I’d like to go as far north as possible go and see Swedish Lapland!

Jack Thompson, Music Editor – In 2026 I will appreciate every moment of my final year, as well as putting more energy and time into being creative.

Gemma Rice, Deputy Film Editor – In the spirit of my section, I hope that in 2026 I can finish watching the Sight and Sound BFI poll of the 250 Greatest Films of All Time. Nearly halfway done – just another half to go. To the British Film Institute: I’ll send you my address for the medal.

Avneet Kahlon, Deputy Climate Editor – This year, I’d like to drink enough water and take my vitamins every day to actually stay fairly healthy and hydrated. But that’s quite standard and pretty boring, so I’d also like to try and learn German! Hopefully I can stick to one of them consistently.

Diya Tanna, Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Physical Media) – Have a healthier lifestyle – sleep schedule, eat better, etc

Arianna Majumder, Deputy Opinion Editor – To do more to maintain and deepen my connections with the people in my life! Also to constantly remind myself that 4am isn’t a normal time to be greeted by before falling asleep…

Tom Ryan, News Editor365 days ago, I said I was going to be more ‘adventurous’. I’m not sure doing an English degree, travelling a bit, writing excessively for The Boar and running at any given opportunity was too ‘adventurous’… so I guess, my 2026 resolution should be to just have fun and enjoy everything. Maybe, just maybe, adventure isn’t the key to a great year (oh, to graduate and get a job would be quite nice too…).

Cianan Sheekey, Deputy Sub-Editor – My New Year’s resolution is to spend more time berating New Year’s Resolutions, so I’d better get to it. It’s become somewhat of a performative youth fad, perpetuated as part of all-too-familiar social media theatrics. If you want to make a change, put simply: do it. Change doesn’t need to stem from an arbitrary starting point, and believing it does halts progress, as opposed to triggering it. As you can tell, I’m really fun at parties.

Lex Gillard, Finance Editor – I want to be more like Cianan Sheekey.

Wishing you a Happy New Year and a fortunate 2026 – from all of us at The Boar.
