Pokémon Presents stream announced for 27 February

The Pokémon Company have announced a Pokémon Presents livestream, which will air on 27 February at 14:00 UK time.

According to the company, the event will feature “about 20 minutes of exciting Pokémon news in celebration of Pokémon Day 2023”. Other specifics were not provided.

Every single year since 2016, the year of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, the Pokémon Company has shared a number of announcements on this date in order to mark the occasion and to celebrate Pokémon.

Last year’s Pokémon Presents gave viewers the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, heralding the start of the franchise’s ninth generation. This was itself a big surprise, given that Pokémon Legends: Arceus had only just released in January.

As a result of two mainline releases last year, as well as the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl the year before, fans are not expecting that a new mainline game will be announced.

It is expected that the developers will announce further content for Scarlet and Violet, games that have already become the fourth best-selling in the franchise since their release at the end of last year. Rumours have circulated about DLC that might expand the Paldea region, especially due to a number of hints in-game about a hidden Pokémon somehow connected to the game’s Area Zero. There are also parts of the game’s map that are currently inaccessible, which fans anticipate will be opened up with DLC.

The Pokémon Company recently shared patch notes for Scarlet and Violet’s version 1.2 patch, and the livestream will likely acknowledge this patch and share details about the update. Other probable announcements linked to the game include more Tera Raid Battle Events and/or Mystery Gift Events, and Pokémon HOME integration.

Pokémon Stadium has already been confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch Online (NSO), so details about how and when are expected to be announced. There is also speculation that Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow will feature on the NSO’s newly-added Game Boy service.

There will likely be additional content for Pokémon Unite and Masters EX, and there have been rumours about a new outing in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series.
