Tokyo 2020: record eighth swimming medal for Team GB

Great Britain won a record eighth swimming medal at Tokyo 2020 after claiming the silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.

Duncan Scott, Adam Peaty, Luke Greenbank and James Guy finished in a time of 3:27.51, finishing 0.73 seconds behind gold-winners the USA, who won in a world-record time of 3:26.78 Italy won the bronze in a time of 3:29.17.

The Tokyo Games are Britain’s most successful Olympics in the pool, with a haul of four golds, three silvers and one bronzes, a turnaround on the three medals won at London 2012 ad the single gold at Rio 2016.

The silver is Scott’s fourth medal in Tokyo, making him the first British athlete ever to win four medals at one Olympic Games. In total, he has six Olympic medals – only Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny have won more.

Scott said: “It’s not really hit me what’s happened. Each race I’ve tried to park when it’s done and look forward to the next one.

“I think the relay culture in Britain is great. There are great medal opportunities. I’ve got to give a massive credit to my team-mates.”
