University of Warwick rises in 2022 league tables

New rankings for 2022 have placed the University of Warwick into the top 20 universities in Europe.

The 2022 QS World University Rankings named the institution as the 61st best university in a list consisting of well-over 1200 across the world, a rise on last year of one place. Yet it is still over ten places below its best recent placement of 48th in 2016.

Additionally, of the 130 universities it examines, Warwick placed 10th nationally in the Complete University Guide’s rankings. This is another rise of one place, overtaking Lancaster University in the process.

These rankings follow recent success in the 2021 QS World University Rankings for individual subjects. Both Statistics and Mathematics have enjoyed world-class results, both being judged 21st in the world in their respective subjects. English Language and Literature achieved 22nd place and Business and Management from Warwick Business School ranked 24th. In all, 16 subjects at Warwick were placed in the top 100 departments for their disciplines.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick, Stuart Croft, spoke of the rankings: “To be recognised as one of the world’s leading universities, and one of the finest in the UK and Europe, is a tremendous achievement for our community.”

He added that, “I am proud of the exceptional work that has been undertaken over the last year and how our community has adapted to, and overcome, the challenges we have all faced.”

Looking to the future and upcoming year, the Vice Chancellor said, “With our city’s year as the UK’s City of Culture now underway, we have so much to look forward to, and I want to thank our entire community for all they’ve contributed to Warwick’s continued success.”

In the 2022 Complete University Guide rankings for the UK, the University of Oxford climbed one place to leapfrog the University of Cambridge to the top spot. For the QS World University Rankings, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retains its top spot for another year.
