This week’s news nuggets feature Warwick’s Poleathon, Warwick Taekwondo’s charity event as well as events occurring in Leamington Spa and Coventry.

24-Hour Poleathon

Warwick Pole performed a 24-hour Poleathon again this year in aid of Child.org.

The event began at midday on Friday 29 April, on the Piazza, in celebration of the annual UK Pole Dance Day on Sunday 1 May.

In total, the performers managed to raise £250 towards Child.org.

Warwick Taekwondo Charity Event

Warwick Taekwondo also hosted a charity event this week, spending a total of 12 hours training in order to raise money for the mental health charity MIND.

On Saturday 30 April, students of varying Taekwondo abilities joined together to train and raised £780 for MIND.

This amount was 20% over their original target fundraising goal.

Leamington Fashion and Beauty event

Richard Oldershaw organised a fashion and beauty event which took place in Leamington Spa’s House of Fraser.

A total of £2,700 was raised at the event.

The 69-year-old blood cancer survivor donated the money to Bloodwise Blood Cancer Research in celebration of his five years free from the disease.

Canley Development

In a development which will cost up to £10million, an expected 83 new homes are to be built in Canley, Coventry.

The new building will cause the demolition of two blocks of flats as well as the eviction of all the residents whom currently reside there.

According to a spokesman of the developer, the resident’s response was overwhelmingly “supportive of the proposals”.

Coventry Manhunt

Coventry police dispatched a manhunt on Monday 2 May after a man was reported damaging property in the Radford area.

The man, who was arrested on suspicion of burglary on June 15 and granted bail, was on the run from the police for several hours before being arrested in a pub within Coventry City centre.
