After racking up the wins in the league and cup, it is only right that the Men’s Basketball 1s start the year at the top of our Power Rankings.

The Men’s Basketball 1s sit top of our Power Rankings – is there a better way to prepare for Varsity?

Whilst we trudged up the Cryfield grass, took the shuttle bus out to Westwood, and made our way to the Desso Hall on many an afternoon in search of sporting excellence, one team were quietly dribbling their way to win after win. Behind a great sense of camaraderie and impressive squad depth, The Bears are in the ascendency. The side, coached by James Raddon, have climbed to joint 1st in the Midlands 2A division whilst securing a berth in the quarter finals of the Midlands Conference Cup. Producing performances befitting their nickname, they’ve shown great grit in eeking out wins over Worcester and Birmingham in their last two outings – their victory over the latter may prove pivotal in the race for the league title.

They now sit second only on goal difference with all the momentum on their side. Boosted by the dazzling offensive play of top scorer Shaq Amon-Ra and consistency of big man and resident double-double machine Matteo Contino as well as strong input off the bench, they’re slowly but surely turning the Sports Centre into a fortress. The Bears may look back on Tauras Rutkauskas’ game winner against title rivals Birmingham as the definitive moment in what is becoming a very special year. On that crucial January evening they showed real steel and earned their spot at the top of the Power Rankings.

These girls win so much that shouting “YOU GOT SQUASHED” after every win like I would do probably isn’t funny anymore. And let’s face it, that’s comedy gold.

Unlucky to lose out to the old enemy but 5 wins in a month shows great form going into Varsity!

The ball may be small, but the girls showed massive hearts to end the month unbeaten.

8. Women’s Lacrosse 2s     P6 W3 D0 L3

They could make the net an inch wider than the ball and the Lacrosse girls would find it.

9. Men’s Cricket Indoors      P3 W2 D0 L1

Even brick walls can’t stop the Cricket team smashing 6s out of the ground!

10. Men’s Fencing 1s     P6 W5 D0 L1

Editor’s Response: Guys, apologies, we put the figures in wrong, that’s my bad! BUT we did have you in 7th based on the correct results, not the mistaken numbers that made print. The decision was made after some deliberation amongst the Boar Sport Editorial Team. The Power Rankings are always up for debate though :p, we love that. As an apology I will personally come down and cover Futsal Varsity! Hit me up! It’s only right

  • This mistreatment of Women’s Futsal is shocking. Definitely deserve to be top of that list. Misquoted statistics aren’t on. Our massive hearts can’t take it. Up your game Boar Sport.

  • Women’s Futsal should be number 1!
They have played 8, won 6 and lost ZERO! And got promoted… That definitely beats all the other teams on this list!
Please consult BUCS for confirmation of their success:

  • I mean, the Women’s futsal team didn’t lose three times at all. They didn’t lose any games. Who gets these stats? #wearefuming #wegotpromo #seventhisoutrageous
