Agony Aunt: Liv’s lifestyle advice

Want to know how to balance your coursework and social life? Here’s some advice from Liv

Dear Liv,

I need advice – I’ve come back for the second term and I already feel overwhelmed with work! Term hasn’t even started properly yet and I’ve got tonnes of deadlines… My friends all want to go out clubbing or to the pub and I feel so guilty heading out for the evening or relaxing when I have so much to do. I don’t want to miss out this term but I want to pass my degree!

Please help,

Panicked Pattie

Dear Pattie,

Firstly, do not worry. If you manage to get through the exam time or a mass of deadlines without reaching peak stress levels, please tell me how.
Secondly, the stress is not always bad! Stress has been shown to make you work harder – well, up to a certain point. Too much stress however, diminishes your motivation and attention, and this is when your social life needs to come back into play. So, the answer is simple; take a break! See your friends, relax, have a drink… It’s okay! If you do this, you’ll be ready to get your head down again tomorrow.
Deadline time is about prioritising and self-control. Obviously, prioritise tomorrow’s piece of work over next week’s exam, but begin your work early enough to have time for it all. It is only term two after all, and uni isn’t impossible; it’s just hard work, and you wouldn’t be here if you weren’t capable. Have enough self-control to earn a night off and start again the day after.
Good luck all, and remember to keep your questions coming!

Liv x

  • Mate, you are zero craic. I’ll represent your nonsense if you don’t step up the game!

  • This is meant to be a publication representing the University of Warwick- do we really need this complete nonsense?
