Largest Amazon lockers in the world installed at Warwick

Warwick University now have the largest of the latest generation Amazon lockers in the world.

Amazon Lockers are a way for students to have some Amazon products delivered to the centre of campus, for an easier collection than a walk to the post room.

They were initially introduced in the Rootes Grocery Store, but have now been moved to outside the Rootes Building.

According to Warwick Retail, this installation is “the largest of its kind in the world”, and the number of lockers has been increased from 68 to 115.

They announced the news on Twitter on 11 January this year, stating “We now have the largest of the latest generation @AmazonUk lockers in the world @warwickuni . That’s official.”

To use the Amazon Lockers, students can select the address “Amazon Lockers – Ivory” when checking out for some Amazon purchases (not all work, however).

Peter Dunn, director of press and policy at the University, has said that the increase in “bigger and better” lockers is probably student and staff demand led – indicating their popularity.

He added: “Amazon provides the lockers at their expense. The original lockers were expanded after about ten weeks, but even the 68 spaces were often full, meaning that the option to have parcels delivered there was not available.”

There have been some concerns voiced however, mainly with the new positioning of the lockers outdoors.

Joe Lester, second-year Philosophy student, added: “I imagine it won’t be long before someone tries to break in to the lockers… Is it worth it for the convenience?”

The general reception from students for the lockers has been positive.

It’s very convenient – saves walking to the post room in these cold winter months!

“I ordered my gaming headphones ready for a tournament but they arrived too late last term… Hopefully this will prevent it happening again!” said Rob Hurley, second-year Management student.
