Your guide to music societies

BandSoc

BandSoc is the heart of live music at Warwick. Whether you’re looking to form bands, make friends or embrace the live music scene — it’s the essential society for musicians on campus. Hosting open-mic nights, meet-and-greets and a prestigious Battle of the Bands contest: there’s a plethora of events to get involved with. Its gig nights — ranging from our very own Mighty Duck to Coventry’s Kasbah — offer a fantastic platform to practice and perform whilst studying at university. Likewise, its rehearsal space, conveniently located about The Dirty Duck, boasts a variety of quality (and well maintained) equipment. Albeit valve amplifiers and 4×12 cabinets to Bonham-ready PA’s: it’s easily the most affordable practice space in the area. Equally, the Battle of the Bands contest during Term 2 is a tense and thrilling competition that gains attention across all of campus. And it’s the perfect way to distract yourself from those looming deadlines.

Offbeat

Offbeat will be your go-to society for all your indie and alternative music needs during your time at Warwick. With a whole range of socials from CD swaps to Never Mind The Offbeat (soon to replace the now-extinct Buzzcocks on BBC2…perhaps), as well as pub crawls which are slightly off the beaten track, there’s something for everyone’s taste. We’ve even been known to throw tea parties in Curiositea now and then. The jewel in our gleaming crown, however, is Off The Record: our twice-termly(ish) club night in Leamington, which promises to be different to any other night out you’ll have at Warwick. You won’t get to dance to the likes of The Smiths and Metronomy at Smack, anyway. This is the one place where people won’t groan as you mention that new underground band whose demo you found during a vicious Soundcloud spiral. Embrace it. We can’t wait to hear about them.

Warwick Glee

Warwick Glee is a society where anyone who loves music can come together! From the shyest wallflower to the biggest diva, we enjoy chilling out and performing together. We have two sessions every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and you can choose to show off your range with our weekly themed assignments in session or on Facebook! As a show choir society, we also perform; our performances range from casual (like Unplucked at the Dirty Duck) to formal (like the Warwick Student Arts Festival) to competitive (the Masters of Show Choir national competition). So come along, and let’s make music together!
