Butterworth Hall on track

The £7.9 million redevelopment of Butterworth Hall is on track to open in Term One in time for the planned performances.

The Hall has already been partially opened and was used for conferences earlier in the Spring as well as for exams this term.

However, some students whose exams were held in Butterworth Hall complained of noise from the ongoing construction work.

“You could hear banging from the hammers…It was really distracting,” said one student coming out of an exam.

Butterworth Hall will be closed again after hosting this year’s graduation ceremonies. It will undergo additional technical work before opening this autumn.

The first event is Ed Byrne on 28 September, followed in October by a concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra.
