Warwick sweeps awards at drama festival

Two Warwick performance societies, Warwick University Drama Society (WUDS) and Curious Directive gave impressive performances at this year’s National Student Drama Festival.

Both WUDS and Curious Directive took a number of prestigious awards home for their productions of Elephant’s Graveyard and Return to the Silence, respectively.

For WUDS Caitlin McLeod won the Buzz Goodbody Student Director Award, Cara Verkerk won Award for Best Set Design and the cast as whole was awarded the Judge’s Ensemble Award. Theirs was described as “the most striking production in the festival” by the Sunday Times Review.

Return to the Silence also garnered significant recognition with pianist Adam Alston taking home the Cameron Mackintosh Award for Music, Rhys Thomas earning Best Lighting Design and Ant Lynch and Rob Morton sharing the award for Best Sound Design. The ensemble as a whole were awarded the Creative Landscape Award.

The festival took place from 28 March to 3 April. About 800 students made it through to the final stage.
