Leamington wins ninth consecutive gold at Heart of England in Bloom awards
Leamington Spa, where many University of Warwick students live, has won gold at the Heart of England in Bloom awards for the ninth consecutive year.
The award recognises the town’s green spaces. The Mayor of Leamington Spa, Councillor Sarah Boad, collected the prize on 22 October.
Heart of England in Bloom runs the regional campaign for the nationwide Britain in Bloom gardening competition. It encourages community groups in cities, towns, and villages to effect positive change in their local environments.
Leamington’s entry is run by the Leamington in Bloom Partnership, which has 17 associate members.
These include Trinity School and Brookhurst Primary School, Packington Place Pocket Park, St Mary’s Allotments, Black Bridge, the Brunswick Hub Secret Garden, Mill Gardens, and Jephson Gardens.
It was a pleasure to accept the Gold Award on behalf of Royal Leamington Spa. To receive a ninth consecutive Gold Award is a wonderful achievement and something the whole town can be proud of

Projects in the town this year included the oversubscribed Green Grants scheme and two new community orchards, planted by residents and councillors with the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.
Packington Place Pocket Park also held a planting day. The Eco Hub, which opened in January , runs community garden and water quality projects.
Volunteer groups have also contributed, including Leam Trash Friends, which has been clearing litter and graffiti since it relaunched in October 2025.
The partnership also ran a natural photography competition this year, with the theme ‘Contrasts in Urban Nature’. Submissions showcased the town’s growing green spaces.
