Warwick Vice-Chancellor awarded honorary doctorate by Coventry University
The University of Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Stuart Croft, has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Coventry University.
Joining the University in 2007 through the Politics and International Studies department as Professor of International Security, Stuart Croft has served as Vice-Chancellor and President since 2016.
A prominent figure of Warwick’s academic community, Croft is the author of multiple books and has published more than 50 academic works, and has supervised 32 doctoral students over the course of his career.
His extensive knowledge of international security has allowed him to conduct research on global challenges such as radicalisation and security threats.
His work has been acknowledged by multiple respected organisations, including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), and the European Union.
Croft has also helped develop partnerships within the local area, including with Coventry University Group. He currently sits on the boards of the Russell Group, Midlands Innovation, and the Guild of European Research Intensive Universities.
Earlier in his career, he served as Ngee Ann Kongsi Professor in Singapore, and was also Chair of the British International Studies Association.

Speaking after the ceremony, Croft said: “I am enormously proud to receive this honorary doctorate. It means a very great deal to me, as did receiving the Coventry Award of Merit last year. Both honours speak to something I care deeply about – making a meaningful contribution to this city, this region and beyond.”
His work has helped ensure a lasting connection between the two universities and their students.
The Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University Group, Professor John Latham CBE, said: “Professor Croft has made an incredible contribution to the education sector and his forward-thinking leadership at the University of Warwick continues to benefit the wider academic community and strengthen the partnerships that are so important to organisations such as Coventry University.”
Latham added that the honour reflected Croft’s contribution to both higher education and the field of international security.
Croft’s commitment to higher education and research within the West Midlands and beyond has ensured his lasting legacy within the academic community.
