University of Warwick ranks 7th in the UK and top in Midlands in Complete University Guide
The University of Warwick has been named as the top university in the Midlands and ranked 7th overall in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2027.
The university has risen two places from its 9th place ranking in 2026, continuing its long-standing strong performance.
The Complete University Guide is an independent platform which annually ranks all 164 UK higher education institutions, providing University league tables to help prospective undergraduate students make educated decisions about their higher education choices.
The platform ranks universities both overall and by individualised subject area.
A range of metrics are considered when evaluating institutions, including: entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality and intensity, academic services and facilities spend, student continuation rates, student-staff ratios, and graduate prospects.
[The ranking] reflects the dedication of our staff, the talent of our students, and our continued focus on delivering an outstanding education and student experience
Professor Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor
The university has historically held a strong position, consistently remaining within the UK’s top 10 higher education institutions for the past five years. This demonstrates the university’s sustained high-performance levels across education, teaching, research, and crucially, student satisfaction.
Professor Stuart Croft, the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University, said: “To be ranked 7th in the UK and the leading university in the West Midlands reflects the dedication of our staff, the talent of our students, and our continued focus on delivering an outstanding education and student experience.”
Warwick’s ascent to 7th place marks its highest position since 2016. The result reflects the university’s growing performance and continued investment in its facilities, benefitting both students and staff.
The rankings also convey a significant increase in the number of subjects which Warwick now ranks within in the UK’s top 10. For instance, Chemistry now comes at 9th, rising five places from its 14th position last year. Similarly, its language subjects have seen a substantial increase, with German climbing nine places to 7th from its previous 16th position.
The maintenance of such a broad range of subjects firmly within the UK’s top 10 demonstrates Warwick’s strong top-tier performance across various disciplines, making it an attractive choice for both prospective and current students
