George Finch named one of four “inspiring” young politicians by The Times
The leader of Warwickshire County Council, George Finch, has been included on this year’s ‘Young Power List’ by The Times.
The Times claims the collection of under-30s are “at the forefront of a new era of British excellence”.
Councillor George Finch was one of five professional politicians chosen in the list this year. The 19-year-old is the youngest councillor in the UK, and the youngest council leader in UK history.
The Times interview was conducted a day after Green Party councillors had called a vote of no confidence against Finch, claiming that he had “abused the office of the leader” after a dispute with police over the handling of a rape case and a row with the council’s chief executive over Pride flags.
Finch told The Times that his mother’s hard work is something “families these days and young people don’t have”
He survived the no confidence call by one vote and thanked the councillors who supported him, but said he wanted to “move on” from the vote.
Finch won his seat in 2025 after Reform UK took control of the council.
Born in 2006 in Bedworth, Finch grew up with two disabled sisters. After his father became disabled after contracting sepsis, his mother retrained at night school to be a special needs educator.
He currently lives with his family, stating: “We’re stronger together […] it’s important that I stick by them.”

Eyes turn now to the local elections which will be held on 7 May.
In Coventry, all 54 council seats are up for grabs following boundary changes, making these elections the most consequential in the city in over 20 years.
In his interview with The Times, Finch said: “I’d like to be an MP […] If the party asks me to stand I’ll do it.”
Councillor Finch declined to comment when The Boar approached him.
