Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday

Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm is marking Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with a special celebration event on Friday 8 May, where they will invite local children to take part in the release of 100 Blue Morpho butterflies.

The Butterfly Farm will release the tropical butterflies into their rainforest Flight Area, honouring Sir David’s legacy as one of the world’s most treasured naturalists and celebrating his lifelong dedication on a milestone birthday.

The event also aims to inspire the next generation to appreciate and protect the beauty of nature. Children from two local schools, Stratford-upon-Avon Primary and Thomas Jolyffe Primary, will be invited to join the celebrations and get the opportunity to experience the butterflies up close.

Sir David Attenborough, who has visited the Butterfly Farm before, is an inspiration to their team with his passion for wildlife conservation. This event celebrates his dedication, with the Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon Dani Hunter, local MP Manuela Perteghella, and her Chief of Staff Jennifer Gray all attending the celebration.

The Butterfly Farm’s owner, lepidopterist Clive Farrell, is also celebrating his birthday the next day. He commented that, “Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations to care deeply about wildlife and the environment.”

“It is a real privilege to celebrate his 100th birthday at the Butterfly Farm, especially as he has visited us in the past. His 1983 ‘Wildlife on One: A Touch of the Butterflies’ led to long queues forming at my London Butterfly House following its broadcast.”

Clive Farrell, who has helped make Stratford’s Butterfly Farm one of the UK’s leading tropical butterfly attractions, added that he has “never looked back” since, and opened six more butterfly houses both here in the UK and abroad. “To share this moment with young people,” he continued, “makes it even more special, as they are the future custodians of our planet.”
