Grab a chair and date it too: A Date Everything! review
Date Everything! is now a rather popular and well-known dating sim, developed by Sassy Chap Games. It was released in June 2025 and was met with a great reception by fans everywhere. It even has a DLC that gives you more characters and content.
The game takes on a fun premise of turning (almost) everything in your house into a dateable character through a special set of glasses. Honestly, I don’t play many dating sims at all. By that, I mean this was my first one. For someone like me, this game was simple enough to be enjoyed after a long day, but, looking closely at it, I wouldn’t say it was the best dating sim out there.
One of the things that I enjoyed was the comedy aspect of the game. It had a sense of humour, which made the game feel approachable and easy to play. It was a nice change from my usual horror and survival games.
The voice acting was very well done, with the actors taking on their characters quite well
In terms of the quality of the game, the voice acting was very well done, with the actors taking on their characters quite well. Each one of them felt fully fleshed out and almost real, sounding nervous or excited when needed.
I also enjoyed the art style of the game and how each character represented their item. One of my favourite examples is Fantina (the fan), with her hair that looks like the head of a standing fan. Betty (the bed) and her fitted sheet coat and “just woke up” hair, as well as Jean Loo Pissoir (the toilet) and his toilet seat collar and plunger head piece, are also good examples. For me, part of the fun was to find all of the characters and see how the household items have transformed into human forms.
However, their personalities left much to be desired at times. Some of the characters fell into obvious tropes and, for someone who doesn’t play games of this genre, I wanted a bit more. At times their dialogue felt too simple, or even limited. With Daemon (a glitch character), I quickly reached their dialogue limit simply by interacting with them too frequently. I know that these characters don’t have endless dialogue, but a bit more would have been nice.
The game was still quite fun and definitely good to play to wind down after a long day, or even as a beginner gamer
With some of the other characters, I also felt that romancing them was a little too easy, and I ended up dating characters that I only wanted to be friends with. An example of this is Stella (the stairs), who I accidentally romanced by being too friendly and supportive. I also felt that some of the characters were just too annoying. Seriously, who would want to date them? I think this links back to my previous points on overused tropes and character types, such as the jock or the nerd.
Overall, the game was still quite fun and definitely good to play to wind down after a long day, or even as a beginner gamer. The controls are very easy, and the game doesn’t have an element that forces you back in (for people who can’t commit to a whole playthrough, that’s a good thing). If you enjoy dating sims and lighthearted comedy, then this game is for you!
