A call to drums: Warwick BandSoc calls for support after £1,000 loss of equipment

Warwick BandSoc has issued an open call for support after members of their exec discovered that valuable equipment, worth over £1,000, has gone missing from their practice room.

In an official statement on Instagram, the society, who run popular campus events such as Battle of the Bands, said that the equipment was reported as missing on the evening of 8 October.

The valuable equipment includes practice room essentials such as amplifiers, drum equipment, and PA gear.

Warwick BandSoc have made the decision to close their practice room for the time being while the society works with the Students’ Union (SU) in an attempt to locate the missing equipment.

Despite this unfortunate incident, Warwick BandSoc is still pushing forward with their planned main events

The society added, however, that “we fear we may not be able to recover this [ equipment ]”, and has called upon the student community to support the society where possible.

Despite this unfortunate incident, Warwick BandSoc is still pushing forward with their planned main events. These include the Battle of the Cover Bands and their Jam Nights.

They will be using these events as a source of fundraising, with the profits from them put towards “rebuilding our practice space”.

As an alternative to the practice room, the society has suggested that student bands and musicians utilise practice spaces provided by the Music Centre, located within the Warwick Arts Centre.

We’re encouraging people to donate if they have the means to do so, and we will be encouraging donations at our upcoming events such as our CR1 gigs with RockSoc and OffBeat

Onur Şen-Chadun, Warwick BandSoc’s President

Regarding student community support, the society are encouraging individuals to purchase a Warwick BandSoc membership from the Warwick SU website. They also have promoted their donation page on the Warwick SU website for members of the community who are interested in providing additional support.

Beyond financial support, the society also added in their statement: “If you would like to assist us in any other way… please reach out!”. You can communicate with Warwick BandSoc via their Instagram, if this is of interest.

Onur Şen-Chadun, Warwick BandSoc’s President, told The Boar that their “top priority at the moment is making sure our practice room is up and running as soon as possible”, a priority which – with support from the SU – they hope to achieve “in the next couple of weeks”.

He also reiterated many points of the statement: “We’re encouraging people to donate if they have the means to do so, and we will be encouraging donations at our upcoming events such as our CR1 gigs with RockSoc and OffBeat.”
