Fashion focus: Coachella outfits 2025
Coachella is well-known for its stacked lineups and commercialised nature, but beyond the performances, the focus falls upon fashion. Whether it be the artists or the audience, outfits remain a dominant part of the discourse. From conceptual creations to festival faves, let’s look at some of the most notable outfits from the first weekend of Coachella.
Lady Gaga
Following the release of Mayhem, Lady Gaga has reemerged in the mainstream, and her fashion has not faltered. She is well known for her controversial, outrageous garments – such as her meat dress – and she continues to opt for unconventional garments even at Coachella. In a custom look from Matières Fécales, on the 11 of April, she presented an impactful ensemble through this bird-inspired outfit, embellished with white feathers and bird claw gloves. The formidable choreography presented was emboldened by this feature, with the vogue elements of the choreo being accentuated by the shape and size of the gloves. This was one of many outfits featured in her set, all of which portrayed her tendency for drama.
Troye Sivan
Sivan appeared as a guest for Charli XCX’s set on the 12 of April, alongside Lorde and Billie Eilish. He performed ‘Talk Talk’, sporting the ‘Protect the Dolls’ Tee, previously worn by Pedro Pascal and Haider Ackermann, designed by Connor Ives. The shirt, which Ives closed his A/W25 show in February with, is used to demonstrate supported towards the LGBTQ+ community, but more specifically trans women. Following efforts to censor the ‘T’ from LGBTQ+ by the US Government, and more recently the concerning Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of woman in the UK, this act is more important than ever. While wearing the tee may seem insignificant, the proceeds from the tee, costing £75, goes to Trans Lifeline, a US-based, trans-led nonprofit to provide trans people support. Therefore, Sivan sporting this item on one of the most commercialised events and on one of the most anticipated sets worked to provide support for the community with sales skyrocketing following the performance.
Jennie
Jennie, who I discussed previously, opted for a more typical style for Coachella. Staying true to her brand, she sported a red-dominated look on the 13 April, in alignment with her debut album Ruby. From mini red shorts by Cotton Candy LA, to a matching crocodile bra top and jacket from Georges Hobeika, the look was completed with a red cowboy hat. The crocodile print was present in the bottom half of the look through the use of three belts, and the western aesthetic of the hat was matched by Didu’s thigh-high boots. For her solo debut at Coachella, previously performing as a member of Blackpink in 2023, she demonstrated a strong look which worked with the expected style of Coachella.
Honourable Mentions
Trixie Mattel, who performed their DJ Set ‘Slid Pink Disco’ on the 12 April, sported a hot pink bodysuit with matching gloves paired with silver thigh-high boots.
Clairo, who was joined by Bernie Sanders to open her set, performed in a patchwork-style dress with sheer elements, as well as blue and white lace.
Lola Young, who has received criticism from losers, but looked great sporting an olive ensemble with a fur-covered bikini top, a fur-covered hat, wrist cuffs, and low-waisted pants.
