Fashion Focus: style at the SAG Awards

The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), founded in 1995, aims to exclusively recognise the outstanding performances of actors in TV and film. It is a prestigious event, alongside the likes of the Grammy’s and the Golden Globes. In parallel with these events, attention is paid towards the fashion featured on the red carpet.

Keke Palmer, who was presenting an award, made headlines with her red-carpet look. She stunned in a black strapless vintage Chanel gown with an ornate, golden neckline. This was paired with matching velvet opera gloves and golden leaf-shaped earrings from Brilliant Earth. The gown first appeared in Chanel’s 1985 ready-to-wear runway show and made headlines when sported by Palmer due to the same garment being worn in 1986 by fellow actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who styled it similarly with opera gloves and statement-making gold earrings.

Anderson provided glamour and opulence with the goddess-inspired garment from Dior, and appeared as a natural beauty, as she was wearing no make-up

Curtis also attended the SAG Awards, nominated for ‘Female Actor in a Supporting Role’ as Annette in The Last Showgirl. She graced the red carpet in a black sequin Dolce & Gabbana gown paired with a feathered bolero and black shoes. The outfit, in relation to the movie she performed in, paid homage to Vegas showgirls. Curtis stated that the garment was ‘giving showgirl’ – it was imbued with drama.

Contrastingly, starring alongside Curtis in The Last Showgirl, Pamela Anderson wore an ethereal white dress to the red carpet. Nominated for ‘Female Actor in a Leading Role’, Anderson provided glamour and opulence with the goddess-inspired garment from Dior, and appeared as a natural beauty, as she was wearing no make-up. This was a decision she made almost two years ago, during Paris Fashion Week in 2023, to engage in a make-up-free journey as an expression of her freedom.

Beyond black and white, the red carpet – which was actually blue – was dominated by red dresses. This colour was opted for by a range of celebrities: Monica Barbaro, Anna Sawai, and Yasmine Sahid just to name a few. My favourite red garment was worn by Danielle Deadwyler, nominated in the same category as Curtis – ‘Female Actor in a Supporting Role’ – for her role in the horror film The Piano Lesson. The Louis Vuitton gown was incredibly bold, in colour and in shape, using structured tulle to create levels within the garment.

Gomez channelled classic Hollywood wearing a gorgeous off-the-shoulder navy gown with a high leg slit

Tyler James William was also decked out in a loose deep-burgundy Louis Gabriel Nouchi suit, differing from his look in 2024 when he sported baby blue. Nominated as part of the Abbot Elementary cast for ‘Ensemble in a Comedy Series’, the garment was effortless, minimalist, and sophisticated, and contributes to his position as a style icon, as he continues to provide more interesting and effective outfits than his male counterparts.

Nominated in the same category, ‘Ensemble in a Comedy Series’, Selena Gomez was noted to have presented one of the strongest outfits of the evening. This was her fourth nomination in this category, for Only Murders in the Building, and was successful in 2025. Gomez channelled classic Hollywood wearing a gorgeous off-the-shoulder navy gown with a high leg slit. The ensemble was elevated through her diamond jewellery, curled-in bob and bright red lip.

The final look to discuss is Cynthia Erivo’s, who accessed the archives to display Givenchy’s 1997 Haute Couture, designed by Alexander McQueen. The floor-sweeping dress was constructed with woven silver-plated raffia and featured a high-neck fringed collar, as well as fringed wide sleeves. Her make-up and accessories aligned with the silver gown with silver eyeshadow and diamond jewellery. It was further elevated through her signature Elphaba green implemented within her nails and rings.
