Easter spring cleaning for the home and soul

With Easter, the representation of new beginnings, a ‘spring clean’ feels like a natural way to welcome the season of renewal and growth. This tends to come in the form of cleaning your house or physical space, which can often cause an unmatched sense of accomplishment. However, a ‘spring clean’ can also come in forms you cannot physically see, such as a mental reset. Just as it is essential to declutter that one drawer in your room, it is vital to declutter your mind. It may not feel as noticeable or drastic but keeping your mental space clean through self-care and healthy habits is just as impactful. Of course, a clean room can help a lot with this. With this article, I hope to give a few ways that you can use a ‘spring clean’ for your home and soul.

Sifting through your clothes and being brutally honest about what you want to wear and what you want to donate should give you much more physical space

A ’spring clean’ can feel daunting, especially when focusing on the physical and mental space. However, tidying the area around you is a good place to start. After all, a tidy room is a tidy mind. There are a few good techniques to declutter and start fresh with your space. A particularly important technique is to donate old clothes. Charities such as Oxfam and Save the Children offer a free downloadable postage label or will send you a bag for donations through their websites. Sifting through your clothes and being brutally honest about what you want to wear and what you want to donate should give you much more physical space. Another good option would be to sell clothes on Vinted. This allows you to list your clothes or items online, meaning you are helping recycle clothes, removing what you do not need and making some extra pocket money.

This clean space will be a good start to creating a clearer mind, as well as creating a great place for you to organise your other things. A good trick is to purchase collapsible clothes drawer organisers for your clothes. There are some good options on Amazon. Marie Kondo, a famed organising consultant, suggests that organising includes not only clothes but also forms and documents you have piled up. Marking folders for different documents and attempting to go paperless is a smart way to become more organised.

Once your space has been decluttered, one section at a time, it is time for my favourite part: the deep clean. Make sure to clean all surfaces, vacuum all floors (even try to get under the bed), and dust all corners. To feel the full effect, buy a diffuser so that your room not only looks clean but smells it too.

By decluttering your home and soul, you can welcome the spring season with growth and renewal

Now, with a cleaner and tidier home, the next step is to declutter and organise the mind. A popular way to begin this process is to start journaling. By writing down your thoughts, feelings, and plans, you can become more in touch with yourself and what you value and need. Another good idea is to write down three things you are grateful for daily to keep you grounded and in a positive mindset. A mental spring clean can also come in the form of self-care. Indulging in a cleanse in the form of an ‘everything shower’, face mask, or a manicure will make you feel refreshed and renewed for the new season.

By decluttering your home and soul, you can welcome the spring season with growth and renewal. Tidying your physical space is a fantastic way to start, as it will leave your space refreshed and can also have positive benefits for your mental health. Going beyond cleaning the physical space and resetting your mind can be equally as productive. Regardless, the ‘spring clean’ that comes with Easter is exciting, leaving you feeling replenished and recharged for the summer months ahead.
