Fashion focus: Golden Globes 2025 fashion review
On January 5 2025, the Golden Globes were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and were broadcast live on CBS. The Golden Globe Awards are an annual ceremony to celebrate excellence in international film and television. They are one of the most prestigious awards in this field, with the ceremony achieving a same-day viewership of 9.267 million. As expected with such a high-profile event, besides the awards, attention is directed towards the fashion featured on the red carpet. Let’s look at some of the strongest looks of the night, in which many celebrities wore slick suits and old Hollywood glamour-style gowns.
A strong example of a ‘slick suit’ was sported by none other than Ayo Edebiri. Edebiri, who is set to feature in the upcoming thriller film After the Hunt with Julia Roberts, referenced Roberts’ 1990s Golden Globes outfit in her look for 2025. Both outfits included a tailored grey suit, with Edebiri rocking a custom Loewe by Jonathan Anderson, whereas Roberts went for an Armani. Moreover, both actresses styled their hair in loose red waves, which Edebiri had dyed in her hotel room just that morning. The tribute to Roberts’ 1990s look was topped off with a 14-carat gold-dipped feather tie, an irregular swirling golden manicure, black leather shoes, Mejuri hoop earrings, a silver grill, and a pin calling for a Gaza ceasefire. The look was incredibly polished, chic, and modern, and one of the best of the night.
The garment has been reported to have taken a total of 1,100 hours to construct, making it a truly timeless piece
Tyler James Williams, star of Abbot Elementary, similarly wore a grey ‘slick suit’ as his outfit was composed of a pinstripe cropped jacket with matching trousers from Dolce and Gabbana. Beneath the suit, Williams went shirtless on the red carpet for a more visually interesting and dynamic presentation, which was emboldened with silver Anita Ko jewellery to add brighter elements throughout the outfit.
Contrastingly, Monica Barbaro, from A Complete Unknown, embodied glamour as she graced the Golden Globes in a strapless bustier gown from Dior, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. The gown featured an alluring draped bodice with a flowing pleated skirt which was adorned with intricate embroidery and beaded embellishments throughout the tulle. The garment has been reported to have taken a total of 1,100 hours to construct, making it a truly timeless piece. The look was completed with a bold silver necklace and one ring on her index finger. Barbaro went for a soft glam make-up look and classic hairstyle perfectly complimenting the dress, which should be the centre of attention due to requiring serious craftsmanship.
It was ultimately the most impactful garment of the evening, solidifying Zendaya as a ‘style icon’
Elle Fanning, featuring alongside Barbaro in A Complete Unknown, has also received high praise for her appearance at the Golden Globes. Fanning wore a champagne-hued Balmain ball gown with a cheetah print bodice. The cheetah print was matched with feline-themed jewels from Cartier, which included a torque necklace, torque bracelet, and a ring. The outfit was refreshingly retro, in tune with the film she was representing, and her matte red lip, flushed pink cheeks, and sleek low bun were suitable finishing touches.
To conclude, the strongest garment of the Golden Globes 2025 would be Zendaya’s. Nominated for her role as Tashi in Challengers, Zendaya attended the ceremony in a glamorous rusty-orange custom Louis Vuitton gown. The strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline was rounded off with orange satin pumps and tourmaline jewellery from Bulgari. The stylish display, through the picturesque and voluminous bob, was a tribute to Joyce Bryant and allowed Zendaya to channel her sophistication and vintage glam style. The outfit turned heads for its homages and beauty. It was ultimately the most impactful garment of the evening, solidifying Zendaya as a ‘style icon’.
