Friendly Barbecue
Distress dissipates, up in smoke.
Sunshine glazing the unkempt grass,
And toasting the willing members
Of this warm affair.
Cuts of meat smoked
With a refreshed richness.
Lightly clothed, we’re dispensers
Of coos, cackles, and chatter.
Strewn emptied bottled beers
Lazing about, basking in boiling heat –
Fresh from servicing thankful lips.
As the day cools,
Bellies become full, drinks dwindle;
Satisfaction opens the event’s close:
A welcomed break from working woes.
