Coventry nightclub ‘Kasbah’ reveals plans for rooftop terrace bar

Kasbah could see the addition of a new rooftop terrace bar in 2022, the plans for which were submitted to Coventry City Council earlier this month.

This extension of the nightclub is a bid to provide a new twist to the experience already offered to customers – and if approved, building could commence in the coming Autumn.

With both standing and seating spaces available, the terrace would cater for up to 150 people and include a small bar.

Outside spaces are currently in high demand as Covid restrictions continue to be eased. Ama Kullar, who has run the club with his brother Varinder for 26 years, said inspiration was taken from similar projects in Coventry.

Ama said that the council has been very receptive to the proposal, and a final decision is expected to be made in June.

The current plan outlines an open terrace with no cover, built on top of the existing premises. No music would be played outside,  nor would there be an increase in capacity.

It sounds like a really interesting twist on the club experience. I already enjoy the garden area at Kasbah as a break from the intensity of the dancing, so having more areas like this makes the whole experience much more social and enjoyable

Speaking on the project, Ama also said “We are forever thinking of finding ways to tweak our business”, saying that in the aftermath of the pandemic, “It will give everybody a nice outside seating space”.

A student at Warwick University also commented that “It sounds like a really interesting twist on the club experience. I already enjoy the garden area at Kasbah as a break from the intensity of the dancing, so having more areas like this makes the whole experience much more social and enjoyable”.

Kasbah opened its doors last summer for seated, Covid-secure events. It plans to reopen on June 21st, with tickets for ‘opening night’ sold out in less than an hour.
