BREAKING: Coventry and Warwickshire to move into Tier 4

Coventry and Warwickshire to move into Tier 4 of Covid-19 restrictions from midnight tonight.

The announcement was made by Health Secretary Matt Hancock at 3pm, following 53,135 new cases of Covid-19 being reported across the UK yesterday, the largest daily increase since the start of the pandemic.

The Covid-19 positive case rate in Coventry has increased slightly from 226 cases per 100,000 from the seven days leading up to 18 December to 239 cases per 100,000 from the seven days leading up to the 25 December.

During the same time period the positive Covid-19 case rate per 100,000 in Warwickshire increased from 217 to 239.

Warwick University campus is included in the Coventry area, with Leamington and Kenilworth included as part of Warwickshire.

Under Tier 4 restrictions only essential shops remain open, with restaurants and cafes operating as takeaway only.
