New Wanyoo gaming cafe opens its doors in Coventry

A new gaming cafe has opened in Coventry, with plenty of space and options to accommodate students, amateurs and professionals alike. The Wanyoo cafe might just be the new place to play for Warwick students.

Wanyoo, Asia’s largest esports studio brand, have expanded their UK presence this week. Following on from an opening in London earlier this year, gamers looking to play their favourite titles like League of Legends, Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto Online can utilise one of Wanyoo’s computer stations in Coventry. They are spread out across a public space,  pair rooms, five people party rooms and six people arena rooms for competitions and friendly matches.

I saw the latter put to good use by League of Legends teams from the University of Coventry and  University of Warwick. The Warwick team played well and helped to put on a fantastic show match, but unfortunately lost 2-0. Both teams were gracious and seemed excited at the prospect to use the new cafe more in the future.

Elenore Li, who helped to host the event, hopes to foster a relationship with the teams, “We really want to support students and the growing university esports scene. We’re so happy to have the teams from Warwick and Coventry here today and we are already looking into more opportunities to work with them and other local universities in the future”

One such opportunity could be to offer assistance to Birmingham City University, which from 2020 will be offering an Esports Management degree. Esports are definitely becoming more mainstream and perhaps the increased prevalence of gaming cafes will continue this trend.

Either way, Wanyoo in Coventry hope to bring players together, though esports and their relaxed environment. Anyone looking for a chance to play on souped-up hardware or is just looking for a change of scenery when university gaming can leave you stuck in your room, Wanyoo hopes they can be the destination for you to head to.
