BREAKING: Fire allegedly “burnt down” kitchen ceiling in Sherbourne

A fire broke out in a top floor kitchen of Sherbourne residences at the University of Warwick at around 9pm today.

A video filmed at a distance was posted to Snapchat, showing the kitchen of Sherbourne Block 5’s uppermost floor glowing orange. A security vehicle can be seen on standby at the entrance.

The fire was put out at approximately 10pm. The ceiling allegedly “burnt down” as a result, according to one student.

In the meantime, those inside the building were evacuated to Lakeside and other neighbouring blocks. It is believed they will be let back in at midnight.

The University of Warwick has been contacted for comment.

UPDATE (24/10/2019 10:15AM): The University responded to The Boar, saying: “We are aware of small fire, isolated fire last night in Sherbourne that was extinguished by attending fire services.

“All present were safely evacuated and no one was harmed.”

Residents were let back into the block at around 1am.
