Commute Boredom Killers: The Best Games to Play!

The bus is the bane of any student’s life. Have a nine AM? Well, you don’t live on campus anymore – you can’t roll out of bed at 10 minutes to the hour and still make it on time. Finish at five PM? Don’t expect to get home any time soon. The worst is when your bus simply doesn’t turn up and you are left stranded in the cold, alone and unentertained. Whilst we at the Boar Games can’t make you warmer or fix the mess that is the bus system, we can cure your boredom. All you need is a smart phone and this article to make your commute not just bearable, but enjoyable.

Pokémon Go

This is perhaps the single best force in my fitness right now. Pokemon Go took over the world 2016 and lead to many an accident: people would play it while driving (disclaimer: do not do this!), walk across train tracks and trespass on people’s property. Over the years the hype surrounding the game has somewhat died down and incidents have consequently fallen as well. This only means it is the perfect time to enter the game – more Pokémon have been added and the amount of creatures you can catch while trundling along on the U1 makes the commute much more bearable.

Party.io

This game is a ridiculous and yet addictive game I have played. The battle royale style means that it can be highly competitive – I am always left desperate to be the last one standing and shamelessly throw people off of the arena. This game doesn’t need an internet connection to be played so it is the perfect time waster when you have run out of data on your bus commute.

Bloom

This choice may have you skeptical – a colouring app? This can’t be right! But if you need something to calm the stress of university life or to encourage mindfulness, colouring has been advocated by many in the past few years. The reason Bloom is a cut above the rest is the challenge of “capturing” colours each day. By using the camera on your phone you can take colours from real life and use them in your artwork. By collecting these you also earn points that can be used to unlock new designs. If you’ve had a busy day of seminars then this is the best app that can be used to wind down on your way home.

Threes

This game is perfect if you’re loaded up with books and a laptop as it only requires one hand to play, meaning you can still carry your load easily. The idea is to swipe numbers across a board in order to combine them and add them together. These are multiples of three (hence the name) and continues until you can no longer add numbers together. This happens because one can only be added to two, and from there on only the same numbers can be combined with one another. This game is so simple, it can be played by anyone.
