Why you should join… Mountains
In the fifteenth piece in the “Why you should join” series, we hear from Warwick Mountains as they tell us why they’re the first club you should sign on to.
Within a couple of days at Warwick, you will have noticed something: our beloved campus is flat. Very flat. Let’s be clear, the ten flights of stairs up to the top floor of the library are no mean feat. However, for those of you who want to challenge yourselves to even greater heights, Warwick Mountains regularly venture out to a host of mountain areas, from Snowdonia to the Lakes, and even as far as Scotland. Each term, we run a minimum of three weekend trips with various walks, scrambles and the occasional run to cater to all abilities.
Walking boots laced and rucksack donned, there’s nothing more satisfying than a long day out in the hills- except perhaps that well-deserved pint in the pub at the end of the day! Whilst mountains are at the heart of our club, many of our members regularly meet up to climb, boulder, run and orienteer- there’s always a chance to do something active with your fellow mountaineers even when it’s not a trip weekend.
Alongside this, we hold various socials, from a night at POP! to ice skating in Coventry. Although not strictly necessary for the social events (aside from a memorable midwinter pub crawl), one piece of kit is a must: the trusty waterproof. Sunshine not guaranteed.
