Why you should join… Badminton
In this edition of the “Why you should join” series, the Badminton Club give us the run-down on what makes them a great option.
Everyone, from beginners to top level county players, is welcome at the University of Warwick Badminton Club. We work hard to bring you as much badminton as possible!
Sessions have a very welcoming and social feel, and are a great way to get your weekly badminton fix and meet new people
Club members get exclusive access to upwards of 4 badminton sessions at various times every week. Sessions are usually 2 hours long and are often filled to capacity. Players do not need to bring any equipment- though of course they can if they want to- as we provide the necessary rackets and shuttles. These sessions have a very welcoming and social feel, and are a great way to get your weekly badminton fix and meet new people!
Coaching is available either through our close partnership with Warwick Sport and their Warwick Active Badminton Coaching Courses which run termly, or through our large selection of coaches affiliated with the club, who are happy to talk about arranging one-to-one coaching sessions.
We hold trials at the beginning of the year, and are always on the lookout for players who show the commitment and skill required
Both Warwick Sport and the Badminton Club host tournaments every term. These provide an opportunity to test your skills against other players at the university, in a relaxed but competitive atmosphere. There’s also the Warwick Active Badminton League, a great opportunity to put together a team for some weekly competition.
BUCS is a vitally important part of our club. We hold trials at the beginning of the year, and are always on the lookout for players who show the commitment and skill required to represent #TeamWarwick. We have 2 Women’s and 3 Men’s teams playing in the BUCS leagues, and our players also play in BUCS nationals every year. All teams get fantastic access to regular coaching sessions, run by our full-time head coach Nic Strange. Warwick Sport has awarded us Platinum Performance Status. This gives our first team members access to a full suite of strength and conditioning training, alongside nutritional, psychological, and fitness guidance. First team members also enjoy more coaching time with our head coach, including dedicated one-to-one sessions.
Aside from badminton, the club also hosts a range of both drinking and sober socials. These include regular themed circles before Pop! and Skool Dayz, pub golf, sober activities such as ice skating and trampolining, meals out, or the annual tour during Easter where we jet off to locations such as Budapest, which the club visited last year!
