Why you should join… Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
To round out a week of this year’s “Why you should join” series, we hear from Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to find out why they should be atop your list of clubs to join.
The University of Warwick’s Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club (BJJ) enables individuals to practice an effective martial art and engage with a welcoming community.
Some of the sport’s most notable practitioners include Ronda Rousey, Demian Maia, and Royce Gracie
Judo was originally developed in Japan and focuses on taking your opponent to the ground using sweeps and throws from a variety of clinches and grips, while Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on the application of choke-holds and joint-locks in order to end the fight once it reaches the ground.
We pride ourselves on promoting the core principles of these sports: inclusivity, community, and enjoyment. With a strong cohort of male and female members, the club blends regular social activity with hard training.

Judo & BJJ looks forward to welcoming you as a new member in October!
