Warwick at the Fringe: MTW presents The Improv Musical
Next up in our Warwick at the Fringe series is the old favourite, but still new every time, Music Theatre Warwick’s Improv Musical.
What’s the concept?
The Improv Musical is an hour long completely improvised musical. The songs are improvised. The scenes are improvised. We take suggestions from the audience for location, two characters and the title of the show, and work from there. Halfway through the show we stop and ask the audience what they want to see happen next and in what style of music. It usually ends up being a hilarious hour of madness.
How does the production show off Warwick drama to its best?
The skills required to perform in The Improv Musical are very different to other shows, in particular scripted shows. Our actors are quick on their feet, attentive to each other and have an unbreakable trust. The actors take the show entirely seriously but not themselves. Every rehearsal and show are just a laugh and it is a true joy to be able to perform a different show every single night.
Tell us about your cast. What makes them special?
Our cast are incredibly talented and they all bring their individual personalities on stage with them. They are all strong characters who are hugely talented but never take themselves too seriously. We are very lucky to have them and are very excited for a season of the Fringe with this particular group.
Sum up your show in three words.
Total rollicking hoot.
If your show was a Warwick landmark, what would it be?
We think we would be the weird kidney-esque structure by the entrance, because no one has a clue what is or how they did it but it’s kind of fun and adored by all.
Where are you performing and when?
C Main (Chambers Street) +1 from the 1st-28th August, 4.05pm every day, except the 15th.
Top tip for making the most of/surviving the Fringe?
Embrace everything.
Anything else we should know?
If you are a Warwick student coming to the Fringe, let us know and come say hello! We will be on the Royal Mile kitted out in red every day and are always up for a pint after the show!
