Things to do on campus over Christmas
With most students gone at Christmas time, campus and the surrounding area can feel lonely and isolated at times. However, it is a myth that there is nothing to do for those spending the holidays on campus! Here are some of the ways you can make the most out of this holiday season.
Make new friends
It’s mid-December, your flat is empty, and so is campus, Leamington and Coventry. This should mean there is no one left around, right? Wrong! A lot of people are in the same position as you are and there is even a dedicated Facebook group that you can join. Meeting up with people can help you combat your loneliness and make new friends for the holiday break and beyond.
Visit the Chaplaincy
The Chaplaincy will remain open throughout the holidays from 09.00 to 21.00 and all you need to access it is your student ID. There are board games and DVDs and you can have hot drinks and toast. The Chaplaincy will also be holding special events, like ‘Make Your Own Christmas Tree’ on the 18th of December at 19.00 and Mass every Sunday and on Christmas Day at 12.30.
Go Global Christmas Dinner
From 15.30 to 19.00 on the 20th of December, the International Student Office will be holding a Christmas event in the Dirty Duck; for only £5 per person, there will be a two-course meal, a Christmas quiz, and other festive activities to get you in the spirit of the holidays. If you want to reserve a place, please fill in this form.
New Year’s Eve
In Leamington Spa, Assembly and the Big Cat Coma will be hosting NYE parties, whilst hotels, restaurants, and other venues in the Coventry and Warwickshire area are organising events to wave 2017 goodbye and welcome in the new year. In nearby Birmingham, you can find events for all different tastes, including the NYE Gala at Symphony Hall, dinner parties like the one hosted at the Chameleon, and themed parties. If your student budget is lower than usual, there are still ways to have fun, like the free party in the Sports Bar in Resorts World Birmingham. In general, once you know how and in which area you would like to spend New Year’s Eve, finding the perfect place is only a matter of some quick online research.
