Projector screen falls during History lecture

A projector screen fell from a wall – apparently only narrowly avoiding the lecturer – during a first-year History lecture this week, in the Maths and Statistics building room MS.02.

Daniel Ruben, a first-year History student and eyewitness, said: “We didn’t quite realise what was happening at first; we noticed a small rip that was getting slowly bigger and bigger and then suddenly it just fell.

“It could have hurt the lecturer but luckily she saw it coming and was able to move out of the way.”

“There was a freak incident where the vinyl roll of an electronically operated roll-down projection screen came away from its roller and fell to the floor in a history lecture being held in MS.02 on Tuesday 1 November.

Daniel continued: “The lecturer did really well and tried to carry on, she got one of the students to phone IT so once everyone settled down from the shock we didn’t lose much time.”

The University told the Boar: “There was a freak incident where the vinyl roll of an electronically operated roll-down projection screen came away from its roller and fell to the floor in a history lecture being held in MS.02 on Tuesday 1 November.

“Nobody was hurt by this occurrence.”

When asked whether any precautions have been taken to ensure a similar incident would not occur elsewhere, the Boar was told: “All AV equipment is inspected regularly.”
