Wes from How to Get Away with Murder: the one who toughens up

Nicknamed ‘The Puppy”, Wes is known amongst his peers for his kind heart and forgiving nature. At times overly gullible, he always gives others the benefit of the doubt. It is easy to mistake his generosity for naivety. However, after merely a term in the presence of his formidable law professor, Annalise Keating, Wes trades his cautious ways for a daring, take-no-prisoners attitude. While I am not suggesting interrupting your professor mid-lecture to casually inform her that she has ruined your life, speaking up more in seminars would help most of us improve our academic experience in university.

Rory from Gilmore Girls: the studious one

The quintessential straight-A student, Rory was used to obtaining nothing less than top marks. This proves to be difficult to maintain amidst the chaos of university life. Nonetheless, with her perseverance and determination, Rory reminds us to not let a minor setback prevent us from achieving our goals. Even when one of her career idols tells her that she does not have the necessary qualities to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming a news journalist, Rory springs back faster than Lorelai running when she smells the inviting aroma of coffee.

Veronica from Veronica Mars: the campus sleuth

As a teenage private detective, Veronica continues to solve mysteries after graduating from Neptune High. In university, her radar for scandals seems to become only stronger, satiating her hunger for intrigue. Veronica’s inquisitive nature implores her to question almost everything, in the process sharpening her critical thinking skills. University is the one time in your life that you will be encouraged to challenge whatever you read in your course. Rather than absorbing the material and regurgitating it in essays and exams, you are expected to form your own opinion. Although this sounds daunting, it is an immensely rewarding experience, and strangely exhilarating too – or is it just me who gets excited when challenging Hobbes’ assumptions about human nature?

Blair from Gossip Girl: the polished fashionista

With never a single hair out of place, Blair is the envy of all fashion-conscious freshers. By your second year, you begrudgingly accept that dressing as impeccably as Blair on a daily basis will simply not become a reality during your time at university. However, Blair is proof that there is no need to let a night of of dancing to Disco Dave’s cringey tunes at POP! be an excuse for wearing your P.E tracksuit bottoms from Year 10 to your 9am lecture the next morning.
