New Teaching and Learning building to house free charging lockers

It has been announced that the brand new Teaching and Learning building will have free charging lockers available for phones, laptops and tablets.

The new building will also have premiere 500 and 250 seat lecture theatres with various other seminar and social spaces for students, and advanced technology.

Construction work for the new building began in April 2015, and it is expected to be completed for the start of the academic year 2016-2017.

The university’s budget for the new building is £18.8 million.

The University says the investment is expected to bring the strengths of its “departments together to widen the worlds of our students through innovative teaching resources and social learning spaces.”

Outgoing Education Officer, Charlie Hindhaugh, pledged to lobby for the University to provide safe and secure charging lockers, for students to leave their laptops or phones to charge at no extra cost.

This means Charlie has successfully accomplished the manifesto pledge.

Aisha Zahid, first-year Psychology student said that the charging lockers “will be particularly useful when you’re on campus but have forgotten your chargers.”

Katy Pallister, first-year Mathematics and Physics student, added that whilst the lockers could be “useful”, having “extra plug sockets would help ease congestion in the library.”
