Record turnout for SU policy referendum
A record amount of students have voted in Warwick Students’ Union (SU) policy referendum this week, beating the previous record set in 2014.
2464 students have voted in total, over 10% of all students. The 2014 record was 1856 voters.
This week’s total is over double the newly set quorum of 5%, which was already hit just 24 hours after voting opened.
Voting closed at 12pm today, with results expected to be announced at around 3pm.
Some of the motions voted on this week have included whether or not Warwick SU remains in the National Union of Students (NUS), as well as the SU’s stance on the European Union referendum.
This is in no small part down to the excellent quality of campaigning from our students on all sides of the debate.

Other policies surround further support of mental health, sabotaging the National Student Survey, and having a wider-range of food options on campus.
Campaigning for the NUS affiliation vote has been particularly engaging on campus, and could be a factor in the large turnout.
Olly Rice, Democracy and Development Officer, commented: “I’m absolutely thrilled that we not only achieved the highest ever turnout in an SU Referendum following an All Student Meeting, but absolutely smashed the previous record set in Spring 2014.”
He added: “This is in no small part down to the excellent quality of campaigning from our students on all sides of the debate.”
