Sports officer hopeful Cecilia Jastrzembska disqualified

Candidate for the position of Warwick Students’ Union (SU) sports officer Cecilia Jastrzembska has been disqualified for producing her campaign leaflets outside of the SU, following an adjudication panel meeting after the results of the elections last Friday.

The SU sets certain rules that candidates in SU elections must follow in their Candidate Guide, one of which is that all publicity must be produced by the Warwick SU Print Shop and “declared” at the prices at which they are available to everybody. For example, all posters would cost the same for any candidate, as would all flyers.

This holds even if candidates are able to produce their material more cheaply, or make it themselves.

The SU cites the reason for this policy is to allow all candidates equal access to publicity in an attempt to keep the election fair.

Ms Jastrzembska is to lose the full amount of the deposit she paid to the SU in order to be able to run in the sabbatical officer elections.
