Warwick student caught with £18k worth of drugs

A third-year Chemistry student was caught with £18,000 worth of drugs at his Leamington home in early 2015.

Calvin Chan, 24, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to five charges of possessing various Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply them, according to reports from the Warwick Courier.

He admitted to both possessing the drugs for his personal use, and to his intention to sell them on.

Using his contacts, Calvin helped another man – a large-scale dealer – whom he was selling the drugs for.

Nick Devine, defending Calvin in court, explained: “That man was a large-scale drug supplier who wanted to expand his customer base, and he didn’t feel he could refuse to enter into this arrangement.”

Calvin supplied cocaine, amphetamines (‘speed’), herbal cannabis, and the hallucinogenic drug DMT.

Calvin pleaded not guilty to two further charges of possessing the stimulant alpha-PVP and the psychedelic drug MeO-DALT, which were found at his home.

According to Mr Devine, Calvin did not know that these drugs were at his home, and they were not his.

Judge Richard Griffith-Jones rejected an application to release Calvin on bail.

The same reports from the Warwick Courier suggested that Calvin is expected to be sent to jail for “some years”, according to the Judge.
