Government responds to the ban Donald Trump petition

The petition created calling on Donald Trump to be denied entry to the UK has received an official response from the Government.

The change.org petition was initially created following Trump’s outbursts about Britain’s ‘massive Muslim problem’, and has since received over 500,000 signatures.

The response highlights the powers of the Home Secretary, Theresa May, to exclude individuals from the UK if they ‘seek to harm our society’ and ‘do not share our basic values’.

David Cameron ‘has made clear that he completely disagrees’ with the remarks made, as Theresa May labels them as ‘divisive, stupid and wrong’.

The Government have also said that they recognise ‘the strength of feeling’ over the issue.

As a result, the petition will be debated in Parliament on Monday 18 January.

It will be available to watch online at parlimentlive.tv.
