Tocil: Best shrooms on campus

A group of students have discovered mushrooms growing in their flat in Tocil.

When the twelve freshers first moved into their apartment block in Tocil last October, they were expecting a small kitchen, four shared bathrooms and blue doors as advertised on the accommodation website.

They were not prepared for a fungal infestation to start growing from underneath the carpet.

According to the students, first there were two mushrooms by one of the showers, but the mushrooms soon began to multiply.
They started appearing in early December but were only properly treated during the Christmas holidays.

Kumail Jaffer, a first-year PPE student who lives in the flat said: “Even after spraying them multiple times, they kept growing back.”

The residents were told that the mushrooms were due to a water leakage from one of the shared bathrooms.

However, they said they were shocked to be told that this happens often in Tocil.

A representative from Warwick Accommodation told the Boar: “Since 2013 there have been a small number of incidents around individual showers within the Tocil student accommodation developing slow leaks underneath the shower trays, which have included cases of fungi growing on damp carpets.”

They added that further alterations were made to the showers during this academic year to combat the infestation, and they are “not aware of any issues that have been raised following the work currently being undertaken.”
