Warwick University Rugby League Movember Review

2015 saw WURL take on Movember for the first time as part of the University RL Ambassador programme. Despite a fair few pre-pubescent faces in the squad, many of the lads were willing to give it a go and raise what they could whilst promoting the sport around campus.

Despite the opening couple of weeks failing to yield much in terms of facial hair, donations were coming in thick and fast as the fundraising total surpassed £200. Week three saw some added motivation in the form of a message of encouragement from Hull FC player and Challenge Cup winner Richard Whiting. Invitations also went out for our Development 9’s tournament on the 5th of December.

A charity social with the Aerobics girls provided perfect opportunity for bridges to be either built or burnt with our sister club.

This provides an opportunity for players who are new to the sport to get time on the field and learn the game with a view to them competing in BUCS in the not too distant future. A £10 per team Movember entry donation will be added to the fundraising total. This is open to all – if you would like to get involved and play, don’t hesitate to contact us via ‘Warwick University Rugby League’ on Facebook.

The final week saw the Movember event that most of the lads had been looking forward to from the off. A charity social with the Aerobics girls provided perfect opportunity for bridges to be either built or burnt with our sister club – most likely the latter given the state of the 17 participating team members’ faces. All in all, it was a great night and more money was raised to add to the total – donations held power as members of both teams could pay for punishments for the other.

As the month ends the fundraising total stands at £523 – a great total from one of the smaller teams on campus. Well done boys.
