From the crease to ‘Grease’: Men’s Cricket don their dancing shoes

The annual CMD event ‘Let’s Dance for Sport Relief’ always gives us creatively challenged cricketers an opportunity to flaunt our moves that are only usually reserved for the front of POP!. It is fair to say that we are not the most gifted collection of individuals when it comes to dancing, but every year we throw our hearts and souls into it, hoping to cement our places in the dance halls of fame. This event has, in my three years, always been fantastic – a brilliant way of bringing together the various sport clubs of Warwick to raise money for a very worthy cause. Of course, CMD 12359366_10205058521012655_168247949_odeserve a lot of credit for making this event the spectacle it is.

The last few years of unspectacular losses had left us in a relatively pessimistic state of mind, so this year we proposed a new brand of dancing.

Essentially, we believed winning was beyond us, so we decided to try and do the funniest dance. In order to achieve this we decided to take the Copper Rooms audience on a tour around the various clubs frequented by our students, and cater our dances to each one. This led to a cheesy ‘Grease Lightning’ dance for POP!, our best Drake impressions for ‘Hotline Bling’ in Smack, and some grimy House tunes and bucket hats for our time in Switch (not to mention eating toast for our Toast themed night in Altoria).

After years of dancing heartbreak and disappointment it really was a fantastic achievement for the Cricket team and, needless to say, Friday night was an enjoyable one. All in all, the event was a cracking night – and we hope that we helped to raise a significant total for Sport Relief, which does fantastic work helping vulnerable peoples in the UK and worldwide.
