Chancellor’s Commission sets up student competition

The Chancellor’s Commission has set up a student competition to find out how they perceive Warwick to support, inspire and engage the region.

There are three categories in the competition, photos, videos and essays, to appeal to a range of talents and unleash creativity.

Students can enter in as many categories as they want. Each category comes with a top prize of £1,000 as well as various runner-up prizes.

The deadline for online submission of entries is midday, Friday 18 December 2015.

The Chancellor’s Commission is an independent inquiry chaired by Sir Richard Lambert, Warwick’s Chancellor. It is made up of ten Commissioners as well as a project manager.

It is being conducted to consider the future role of Warwick within Coventry, Warwickshire and the wider region.

The Commission aims to create a long-term vision for Warwick’s place in the region, building on the original vision from five decades ago.

To date, the Commission has held various consultations, locally and nationally, as well as interviews with key stakeholders, desk research and a community survey.

The Commission will publish its report in Spring 2016.

SU president, Isaac Leigh, commented on the importance of the Commission: “The University needs to understand why young people want to come to Warwick.

“They come here because they want a top degree from a top university, but they also want to make a real and tangible difference to other people’s lives.

“The University won’t facilitate this if it is passive and inward-looking. It needs to be outward-looking, using its reputation and connections to shape the surrounding communities”.

Isaac added: “Without them (students), the Commission simply won’t have the relevance and relatability that it needs to in order to have the impact it desires.
