Warwick Entrepreneurs bring The Apprentice to Warwick Campus

The Warwick Entrepreneurs society held The Warwick Apprentice 2015 competition on campus from 12-16 January, giving students the opportunity to win a £1000 prize.

This event was the largest university version of its kind with an overwhelming 194 applications to the competition and a variety of candidates from undergraduates to master’s students.

During the course of this week the candidates have participated in a number of Apprentice style challenges within teams.

The competition began on Monday 12 January 2015, with a launch event to introduce all the candidates to the competition, and the participants were then given their first of four challenges for the five days.

These challenges were designed to test candidates’ abilities to work in teams, create and pitch ideas, negotiate with others and their ambition and drive to succeed.

The candidates were given 24 hours to test their skills in ‘up-trading’. This involved being given a set of objects which they then had to trade with others to gain items of an equal or higher monetary value.

Teams then had to sell on these objects with the team raising the most amount of money progressing through to the next round and semi-final.

This initial challenge was a success with candidates managing to collect items ranging from a chocolate fountain to LCD TV’s. Due to this success no teams were eliminated and they all progressed on to round two of the competition.

The competition will culminate in teams pitching their own business idea to a panel of judges including guest judge and 2009 Apprentice winner Yasmina Siadatan.

The finale will take place at 18:00 on Friday 16 January in the WBS Teaching Centre. Yasmina Siadatan will also be giving participants an informative talk on entrepreneurship skills and her experiences before announcing the winner of the competition.
