Rave Tapes

Rave Tapes reframes Mogwai’s familiar post-rock formula, embracing a slightly gothic, synth-laden sound. The heavy electro presence, far from dehumanizing the orchestral Glaswegian guitar outfit’s typically evocative dynamics, expands the intense feeling and impulsive aesthetic of songs such as ‘Remurdered’ and ‘Deesh’. The songs are inevitable in their lengthy, additive structures, and some tracks meander a little aimlessly, but this hardly detracts from the album’s mesmerising cinematic textures and awesome instrumental presence.
