Post Tropical

Post Tropical is a neatly composed and realised album, but the even-tempered dullness of the songwriting detracts from the achievements of its warm, muted production. While ‘Look Out’ is memorable for its dynamic shifts and ‘The Lakes’ for its shades of hip-hop, a potentially interesting, spacey minimalism characterizes most of the tracks too heavily, lending them a bland, unadventurous feel. McMorrow’s reductive approach is frustrating given his soulful falsetto and sharp, poetic lyrics: his is a talent capable of better.
