Man arrested over stabbing

A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in Leamington Spa last week.

Police received a call at 6.40pm on Friday 17 January,  from a member of the public who had found the wounded woman outside Food of Passion – a takeaway – on Tachbrook Street, Leamington Old Town.

The injured woman was taken directly to Warwick hospital and later transferred to University Hospital Coventry, where she underwent surgery to remove the knife blade from her lower torso area.

Her condition is not believed to be life-threatening, and she is currently recovering at home.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm, but released on bail after undergoing questioning in custody.

Police enquires caused the neighbouring convenience store to close early, while Tim’s Chipper fish and chip shop remained open for business.

The staff of both stores stated that they knew no details of the incident.

Police cordoned off the surrounding area and made house-to-house enquiries regarding details of the occurrence.

Any information should be forwarded to detective sergeant Mark Lakey, who can be contacted on 01926 684036.

Alternatively, anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 555111 or online at www.crimestopers-uk.org.
