Hot food on campus

Warwick Retail is trialling a breakout area in Rootes Restaurant where students can heat their own food while on campus.

A hot water heater and microwave is available alongside cleaning materials and bins to maintain a tidy environment.

The area is open every day from 8am to 9pm for the rest of term two except for the following dates, when the space will be used for private events: January 20-24, February 4, 12-14, 18-21, March 3-8.

Warwick Retail has issued terms and conditions online for the use of the area, asking students to be responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy space with the cleaning resources provided.

Suzanne Brown, marketing communications manager at the University of Warwick, said: “The area has been set aside as a breakout area as we had a lot of feedback from students that there weren’t enough places around campus where they could eat their own food.”

Ben Sundell, president of the University of Warwick Students’ Union (SU), issued a blog on the SU website to spread the news.

“I made it one of my number one priorities this year, after putting it as a headline point in my manifesto [to become SU president].”
