Jess Devine Wants Her Hat Back!

[dropcap]M[/dropcap] y favourite children’s book has to be Jon Klassen’s ‘I Want My Hat Back‘ published in 2011. Since working in a bookshop I have a new found appreciation for children’s literature and just how brilliant it can truly be.
The story tells the tale of a bear who has lost his hat – but his hat is not just missing it has been stolen! We follow the bear on his quest to find his hat and the hilarious encounters he has with other animals along the way. Despite barely having 100 words in the book Klassen manages to create a story that is a delight for the reader. It is simple, subtly and really clever and captivates both adult and child.
Sadly the sequel ‘This Is Not My Hat‘ which exposes the world of fish hat politics is not as funny but still retains the simple charm Klassen has become recognised for.
The sign of a good children’s book is one that can entertain and capture everyone and Klassen has demonstrated through a bear and his lost hat just how intelligent children’s literature can be!
My advice is to always carry a copy with you…
